BBQ catering (also called barbecue catering, and its companies barbecue caterers) is smoked or grilled meat, sides and serving gear delivered to your event, from a pan pickup to a pitmaster cooking on site. No source we found gives a Miami market price, and each company prices in its own unit. Smokey Boys BBQ, a Miami company, lists party packages that each feed about 25 guests at $335, $475 and $585, with a 25-person minimum. Miami Grill Catering lists a gourmet BBQ menu at $78 per person for 40 to 64 guests, falling to $66 at 390 guests or more, plus tax. Those are two companies' prices, read on October 23, 2026, not a range for the city.
Before you send the quote form on this page or call, settle four things: which service level fits, how much food to order, what the quote must include, and how Miami weather and venue rules change an outdoor event. Minimums, deposits and lead times are in the booking section below, and lead times on the pages we read range from days to 4 to 8 weeks for weekend events, so get yours in writing.
Send the quote form on this page with your date, guest count and venue town, or call. You pay Miami Catering Pros nothing for the form or the call. The caterer is an independent company. Miami Catering Pros does not cook and does not set prices.
Send the quote form on this page, or call (804) 889-2677, and we call you back within one business day and connect you with a local BBQ catering company.
What does BBQ catering include?
A package is built from meats, sides, bread, sauce and the gear to serve it. What sits inside the price changes by company, so read the list line by line before you compare totals.
Smokey Boys BBQ sizes its packages in pans and buns for about 25 guests; in the sizing we read, that was one full pan of meat, 48 slider buns and a half pan of beans. Miami Grill Catering has separate "included" and "not included" lists on its gourmet BBQ page. Apocalypse BBQ, a Kendall restaurant, says its catering comes with chafers, utensils and plates. Bear Pit BBQ in Los Angeles says the host supplies the serving utensils. Same word, four different bundles.
Extras are where a low headline price grows. Sonny Bryan's in Dallas adds pork ribs at $1.50 per person and a cobbler swap at $2.00 on top of its $16.49, $17.49 and $18.49 buffets, and Hutchins BBQ, also in the Dallas area, lists banana pudding at $3.50 per person and drinks at $2.00. For a crowd, those add up.
BBQ catering services compared: from pickup to a pitmaster on site
These are the service options companies describe. The last column names one company that lists each, not the only one.
| Option | What it usually means | Often suited to | Listed by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pickup | You collect trays or pans | Small groups | Apocalypse BBQ: trays for 10 or fewer |
| BBQ delivery | Food arrives; no one stays | Offices, homes with serving gear | Smokey Boys BBQ: $20 Miami-Dade delivery |
| Drop-off with setup | Delivery plus buffet setup | Mid-size parties | Smoque (Chicago): $60 within 10 miles |
| Drop-off with servers | Staff serve for a set time | Larger parties | Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (New York): 15% administrative fee |
| Full service | Staff set up, serve, break down | Weddings, large events | Hutchins BBQ lists full-service catering (setup, serving, cleanup) |
| On-site grill or pitmaster | Cooking happens at your event | Backyards, venues that allow fire | Rivera Events: on-site grill |
| Food truck | A licensed vehicle parks at the event | Open lots, festivals | Florida allows state-licensed food trucks (s. 509.102) |
Service options in detail
BBQ delivery, BBQ catering delivery and drop off BBQ catering
Drop off BBQ catering has no staff on site; Shorty's rough guide puts it at the low end of its three service levels. You handle the serving. Ask whether the order comes in heated packaging and whether chafing dishes and fuel are included. The delivery fee is its own line: Smokey Boys BBQ lists a flat $20 inside Miami-Dade, while Smoque lists $60 within 10 miles and $1.00 per mile each way beyond. For a same day BBQ catering order, ask whether the company takes orders that late; Sonny Bryan's lists same-day ordering in Dallas.
BBQ catering with servers and full service BBQ catering
BBQ catering with servers adds hands for the buffet line and refills. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que lists a 15 percent administrative fee on drop-off with servers, against 10 percent on plain delivery. Full service BBQ catering adds setup, serving and breakdown; ask whether cooking on site is included or priced as its own package. Miami Grill Catering lists about one team member per 25 guests. A staffing ratio like that is the number to ask for, because it sets the labor line.
On site BBQ catering, grill catering and pitmaster catering
On site BBQ catering means the cook brings the fire to you. Gaucho Ranch Catering describes wood and charcoal grilling in the Argentine asado style, with meat carved in front of guests, for groups it puts at 25 to 500. Hutchins BBQ lists an on-site pitmaster. For pitmaster catering and grill catering, ask the company what space, power and fire safety setup it needs, and ask the venue whether open flame is allowed. Read the outdoor and park sections below first.
Mobile BBQ catering and BBQ food truck catering
Mobile BBQ catering and BBQ food truck catering bring a kitchen on wheels. In Florida, food trucks are licensed by the state, and local governments cannot require a separate local license or permit for them, though they keep authority over how the vehicles operate (Florida Statutes s. 509.102). Ask your venue about its own truck rules.
How much BBQ to order per person?
How much BBQ to order depends on how many meats you serve and how long guests stay. These are company guides, not government rules. For meat weight per guest, Hutchins BBQ's guide runs from a third of a pound to half a pound, with two to three sides per guest. Smoque says a pound of its meat gives about three servings. Smokey Boys BBQ sizes by the pan, with one package feeding about 25.
BBQ catering for 50 people
At Hutchins' guide, 50 guests need about 17 to 25 pounds of meat. Smokey Boys' sizing means two of its 25-guest packages, so two Pulled Pork Party packages would be $670 before tax and delivery. Miami Grill Catering's 40-to-64-guest tier is $78 per person, so 50 guests is $3,900 plus tax for its gourmet menu. Same crowd, very different menus, so compare what is on the plate, not only the total.
BBQ catering for 100 people
A hundred guests need roughly 33 to 50 pounds of meat on the Hutchins guide, or about 33 pounds at Smoque's three servings per pound. At Smoque's $24 per pound, 33 pounds of pulled pork is about $800 for meat alone, and sliced brisket at $39 is about $1,300. These are Chicago prices used as a worked example only. At Miami Grill Catering's one-per-25 ratio, 100 guests means about four team members.
BBQ catering for 200 people
Two hundred guests need roughly 67 to 100 pounds of meat on the Hutchins guide, and at one team member per 25 guests that is eight staff. Ask for a written headcount of staff, their hours and who supplies serving tables, chafing dishes and trash handling.
BBQ catering cost: prices, pricing models and fees
Asking how much does BBQ catering cost gets a different answer from every company, because the price can be per person, per pound, per pan or a package for a set number of guests. BBQ catering packages from Smokey Boys BBQ are sized by the pan, and Bear Pit BBQ prices its packages by guest count. The first table lists Miami-area companies. The second lists out-of-town companies, which show how fees are built but are not Miami prices.
| Miami-area company | What it lists (read October 23, 2026) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Smokey Boys BBQ | Party packages for about 25 guests, 25-person minimum | $335 for Pulled Pork Party or Pan Con Lechon Party; $475 for Brisket Bash; $585 for Southern Sampler; plus 7% tax and $20 Miami-Dade delivery as the company lists them |
| Miami Grill Catering | Gourmet BBQ, 40-guest minimum, 50% deposit | $78 per person for 40 to 64 guests, down to $66 at 390 or more, plus tax |
| Rivera Events | Catering menus, not BBQ-specific | From $30 per person |
| Apocalypse BBQ | Quote-form budget choices, not menu prices | $25 to $50 or more per guest |
| Shorty's BBQ | Rough guide on its blog | Drop-off $12 to $20, buffet $18 to $30, full service $30 to $50 or more per person |
| Out-of-town company | What it lists | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Sonny Bryan's (Dallas), read October 23, 2026 | Buffet with 2, 3 or 4 meats | $16.49, $17.49, $18.49 per person |
| Bear Pit BBQ (Los Angeles), read October 18, 2026 | Buffets, 25-person minimum; party packages | $19.99 and $24.99 per person; $595.95 for 25 guests, $975.95 for 50 |
| Gotham Catering (New York), read October 18, 2026 | Summer grill package with sides, dessert, soft drinks | $44.95 per guest |
| Smoque (Chicago), read October 18, 2026 | Meat by the pound; boxed meals; delivery | $24 to $39 per pound; $18 to $34 per boxed meal; $15 per chafing set |
| Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (New York), read October 18, 2026 | Administrative fee | 10% on delivery; 15% on drop-off with servers |
None of these is a market average. A BBQ catering cost per person from one company's smoked-meat buffet cannot be compared with another company's grilled tomahawk menu.
What moves BBQ catering prices
Six things set your quote. Guest count comes first, because tiers like Miami Grill Catering's lower the per-person price as the group grows. Menu comes next: brisket costs more per pound than pulled pork on Smoque's list. Service level adds labor. Distance adds a flat or per-mile fee. Add-ons such as ribs, drinks and dessert are charged per person. Fees can be a percentage of the order, as at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.
Tax, service charges and gratuity
Florida's sales tax rule for restaurants and caterers treats gratuities, tips and similar charges as part of the taxable price unless the charge is separately stated as a gratuity and the seller gets no monetary benefit from it. It also treats service, minimum and setup charges as taxable when they are part of the charge for furnishing or serving food (Florida Administrative Code Rule 12A-1.0115). The county surtax rate is published by the Florida Department of Revenue. We did not confirm a combined Miami-Dade percentage, so rely on the quote: it should show tax as its own line.
Booking BBQ catering: minimums, deposits and lead times
Minimums: guest and dollar minimums for delivery and full service
Guest and dollar minimums for delivery and full service differ by company, and the table below lists them. What is the minimum order for BBQ catering? It depends on the company and on the service level. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in New York lists a 10-guest minimum for delivery. Every number below is from the named company's own page.
| Company | BBQ catering minimum order | Deposit or cancellation | Lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smokey Boys BBQ | 25 people | Not listed | Not listed |
| Traffic Man BBQ | 20 guests | Not listed | At least 2 to 4 weeks, earlier in peak seasons; private tastings for full-service clients |
| Miami Grill Catering | 40 guests | 50% deposit | Final count 7 days out |
| Rivera Events | 25 guests (it caters from 25 up to 400 or more) | Not listed | 4 to 8 weeks for weekend events (BBQ FAQ); 2 to 4 weeks (catering FAQ), so ask which applies |
| Hutchins BBQ | 20 people or $650 for delivery; 75 for its pitmaster package | 50% non-refundable deposit; 72-hour cancellation | 48 hours notice for delivery; 72 hours for pitmaster package; its FAQ says one to two weeks, so ask which applies |
Ask how many weeks full service needs, and get the answer in writing. For same-day orders, Sonny Bryan's lists same-day and last-minute ordering in Dallas, and the Miami pages we read did not state a rule. Ask what happens if your guest count falls below the minimum, and what date the final count is due.
BBQ for weddings, offices, picnics and game days
BBQ wedding catering
For a BBQ wedding, ask whether the company offers full service and a tasting. Traffic Man BBQ lists BBQ-style weddings and private tastings for full-service clients. Apocalypse BBQ lists weddings and rehearsals, so ask any company about a rehearsal dinner menu too. Ask for the meat count per guest, the number of servers and how the food stays hot during photos. For other wedding menus, see event catering.
Office BBQ catering and corporate BBQ catering
Office BBQ catering and corporate BBQ catering call for fixed arrival times and easy serving. Hutchins BBQ lists office and corporate catering. For office lunches, Sonny Bryan's lists box lunches. Ask for a delivery window, a named contact on delivery day and labels for vegetarian items.
Picnic catering, backyard BBQ catering and cookout catering
Picnic catering and cookout catering put the meal outdoors, which brings the heat and rain issues below. For backyard parties and backyard BBQ catering, check your own space: shade for the food, where trash goes and whether neighbors will be fine with a smoker. Traffic Man BBQ lists party rentals, so ask who brings tables and tents.
Game day catering, watch party catering and BBQ buffet catering
Hutchins BBQ lists watch party and game-day catering. A BBQ buffet works for a long game, and BBQ buffet catering with chafing dishes keeps food warm, but ask whether the food can arrive in two timed drops.
BBQ party catering: birthdays, graduations and family reunions
BBQ party catering for birthday parties, BBQ catering for graduation parties and BBQ catering for family reunions share one question: how long will the food sit out? Ask the buffet's safe holding time and whether a second wave of trays is possible. Traffic Man BBQ lists reunions among its events.
Festivals, vending and fundraisers
If a BBQ company will sell plates to the public at a festival, the rules change. The Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants lists temporary event licenses at $91 for 1 to 3 days, $105 for 4 to 30 days and $456 for a year, per a March 2020 copy of its guide, so confirm current fees. A licensed fixed or mobile establishment may run one unit free at a single temporary event of 1 to 30 days, food from a home kitchen is not allowed, and sponsors must notify the division at least three business days ahead. Miami-Dade Parks also bars vending in county parks except by licensed concessionaires.
Boxed BBQ lunches, BBQ boxed meals and BBQ tray catering
Boxed BBQ lunches and BBQ boxed meals are individually packed plates, common for offices. Smoque lists boxed meals from $18 for a pulled pork sandwich meal to $34 for a full slab of ribs (Chicago, read October 18, 2026). We found no Miami boxed meal prices. BBQ tray catering is the shared version; Apocalypse BBQ lists trays for 10 or fewer with pickup. For BBQ lunch catering and BBQ dinner catering, ask how many sides come in each box and whether sauce is packed separately.
Setup, plates, utensils and cleanup
Do BBQ caterers provide plates and utensils? Some include them and some do not (see the Apocalypse BBQ and Bear Pit BBQ examples above). Ask who supplies them: chafing dishes, warming fuel, serving tables, plates and utensils. Put the question in writing for napkins, serving spoons and trash bags too. If the cook brings a smoker or grill on site, ask what space and power it needs.
BBQ catering setup and cleanup covers who sets the tables, who lights the fuel under the chafing dishes and who takes away the pans. Miami Grill Catering lists set-up and breakdown timing on its page, and Smoque lists a chafing set at $15. Ask whether leftover pans are picked up, and what the fee is if they are not.
Outdoor BBQ events in Miami heat, rain and hurricane season
The National Weather Service Miami office describes South Florida summer days with highs averaging in the upper 80s and showers and thunderstorms that are almost a daily occurrence. Its study of the wet season puts the median start at May 21 and the median end at October 17, from 1956-1997 records. The National Hurricane Center says the Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with a peak on September 10. Any outdoor BBQ booked from late spring through fall needs a weather plan. On rooftops and patios, ask the building or venue whether grills, smokers and open flame are allowed at all. Parks have their own rules, covered below.
Questions for a rain plan
Ask who decides to move or cancel and by when, whether tents or an indoor space are part of the plan, what happens to food already bought or cooked and whether your deposit holds. Terms differ by company, and Miami Grill Catering has a weather and grilling restrictions section on its page. Do not assume any company will reschedule for free.
Keeping BBQ hot and cold
Keeping food hot or cold is a safety issue as much as a taste one. Louisiana State University's extension service gives a general danger zone of 40 to 140 degrees F (the Florida guide below uses 135 for hot holding at temporary events), and says perishable food should not sit out more than two hours, or more than one hour when the outdoor temperature is above 90 degrees. The FDA gives the same two-hour and one-hour limits. The Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants guide for temporary events says to hold hot food at 135 degrees F or above and cold food at 41 degrees or below. The FDA also lists safe internal cooking temperatures of 145 degrees F for beef and pork cuts with a three-minute rest, 160 for ground meat and 165 for poultry. Ask the company how it holds food and what thermometer it uses.
Tents and open flame
Miami-Dade County says tents 10 by 12 feet or smaller, not used for holiday sales, need no building permit for a short-term event, and that zoning and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirm. The City of Miami says a tent larger than 10 by 10 feet needs a fire safety permit as well. The county's page on assemblies and sporting events bars unauthorized open flames in tents, but it is not about catering, so ask the fire department before any cooking under a tent.
Parks and venues for BBQ catering in Miami
Miami-Dade County has 34 incorporated municipalities, and the rules depend on where the venue stands. A city park, a county park, a private venue and your own backyard are four different cases.
County parks
Miami-Dade Parks rules say fires may be lit only in an approved grill, stove, fireplace or other suitable container, and the person who lights a fire must put it out. Cooking in a park outside designated areas carries a $100 civil penalty on the county's schedule. At Matheson Hammock Park, the county page says tents, barbecue grills and cooking or open flame are not allowed in the beach area. At Tropical Park, the Mary Abreu Community Center has an outdoor grilling area and a small kitchen with no stove, per the county page.
The county reservation page says only registered party vendors may serve parties at its picnic shelters, pavilions and cabanas, and the county publishes a list of them. We could not read that list. Ask the park, before you pay for a shelter, whether the company you want is registered.
Private venues and city permits
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens says clients may only use caterers from its Approved Vendor List. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden says all vendors, including caterers, must be pre-approved. The Deering Estate says it is just the venue and lets wedding clients bring their own caterers. Check your venue's current page.
If your event needs a City of Miami special event permit, the city asks you to show the kitchen in the site plan if you are cooking, and applications for small and medium events are due at least 30 days ahead. Coral Gables asks for special event applications at least four weeks ahead, with a certificate of insurance. Those rules cover events open to a set number of guests, not necessarily a private party, so ask the city office before you assume either way. For a venue in Key Biscayne, ask any company about travel time and fees.
Dietary options and allergies at a BBQ
Traffic Man BBQ lists kosher and vegetarian menus. Hutchins BBQ's page mentions gluten-friendly and vegetarian-friendly sides and allergy requests. The FDA lists nine major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology says eating at a catered event gives a guest less control than a restaurant meal, so raise allergies early. Miami Grill Catering asks for allergies in writing seven days ahead. Ask the caterer for its allergy procedures and which ingredients go in each dish, and get the answer in writing.
How to choose a BBQ caterer and compare quotes
A good BBQ catering quote lets you compare two companies line by line. Ask each company for the same things:
- The Florida license number. Florida law (s. 509.241(3)) says a food service business that offers catering must show its license number on all of its catering advertising. Ask for the number, and for a current certificate of insurance if your venue wants one. Coral Gables, for example, requires one with a special event application.
- The menu in writing: meats, sides, bread, sauce, desserts and drinks, with the count per guest.
- The service level and staff ratio, with the hours staff are on site.
- Every fee: delivery, mileage, administrative or service percentage, setup, rentals and tax as its own line.
- The deposit, the final-count date, the cancellation terms and the weather plan.
- Who supplies plates, utensils, chafing dishes, tables and trash handling.
- A tasting, if you are hiring for a wedding or a large event.
- Service area and travel: whether your town is inside it, and what the trip costs.
Compare the total for the same guest count, service level and menu. If one quote is far lower, find the missing line before you celebrate.
If your event is bigger than a BBQ, read about event catering in Miami. If you want a cook at home instead, see personal chef services. To see how a request is handled, use the contact page.
How to request a BBQ catering quote
Send the quote form on this page or call. The form asks for your name, phone number, ZIP, the service and the details. Put the date, guest count, venue and its town, the service level (pickup, drop-off, servers, full service or on site), the menu and any diets or allergies in the details, and say whether your budget is a total or per person. The company that takes your request is independent and quotes the job. You pay Miami Catering Pros nothing for the form or the call.
BBQ catering questions
How far in advance should I book BBQ catering?
Lead times on the pages we read run from days for delivery to 4 to 8 weeks for weekend events (see the booking table). Book a wedding or holiday as early as you can, and get the lead time in your written quote.
What is the minimum order for BBQ catering?
It varies: Smokey Boys BBQ lists 25 people, Traffic Man BBQ 20 guests and Miami Grill Catering 40 guests. Get the minimum, and what happens if your count falls below it, in your written quote.
How much BBQ per person should I order?
Hutchins BBQ's guide is between a third and half a pound of meat for each guest, with two to three sides. That is one company's guide, not a rule.
What is the difference between drop-off and full-service BBQ catering?
Drop-off brings the food and leaves, with or without setup. Full service sends staff who set up, serve and break down. Staff ratio and hours are lines to compare in each quote.
Can I order BBQ catering for the same day?
Some can. Sonny Bryan's lists same-day ordering in Dallas. The Miami pages we read did not state a same-day rule, so ask when you send the form or call.
Do BBQ caterers cater weddings?
Some do. Hutchins BBQ has a weddings question in its FAQ, and Traffic Man BBQ lists BBQ-style weddings. Ask for a tasting and a reference for events of your size.
Do BBQ caterers provide plates and utensils?
It depends on the company. Apocalypse BBQ lists plates, utensils and chafers as included, while Bear Pit BBQ says the host supplies serving utensils. Ask in writing.
Are there vegetarian or gluten-free BBQ options?
Some companies list them. Traffic Man BBQ lists kosher and vegetarian menus, Hutchins BBQ mentions gluten-friendly and vegetarian-friendly sides, and Miami Grill Catering asks for allergies in writing seven days ahead. Request the ingredient list for each dish.
How do BBQ caterers handle leftovers?
Ask before the event. The FDA says to refrigerate or freeze perishables within two hours, or one hour if it is above 90 degrees outside. Ask who owns the pans and whether leftovers are packed.
Does the BBQ caterer provide setup, servers and cleanup?
That depends on the service level. Hutchins BBQ lists setup, serving and cleanup under full service; ask each company what its service level covers and where staff appear on the quote.
What areas do BBQ caterers serve?
Each company sets its own area, so a search for BBQ catering near me or BBQ caterers near me should end with a written service area and travel fee. Miami Catering Pros connects people in Miami, Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, Key Biscayne and South Miami who send the quote form or call with a local BBQ catering company.
